I love this cookbook, I picked it at an estate sale and was immediately drawn to it because my mom has the same cookbook. I can see her pulling it out and looking up a recipe. I remember using it to make homemade biscuits when I was younger.
So over the weekend I pulled it out to make homemade biscuits for my family, but with a twist, I used a HEART shape cookie cutter to make them extra SPECIAL! My daughter helped with with cookie cutter.
I used the BISCUITS SUPREME recipe used, page 77:
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
4 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. cream of tarter
2 t. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk
Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tarter, sugar; cut in shortening, it will resemble course crumbs. Add milk; stir only until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead gently. Roll dough until 1/2 inch thick; cut biscuit with a biscuit cutter or COOKIE CUTTER. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in very hot oven 450 degrees F for 10-12 minutes.
They are hootalious! I served with scrambled eggs and Fredericksburg, Texas Opa’s Country Sausage.
